About

I am currently living in the Netherlands and studying Autonomous Fine Arts at the Academy of Minerva in Groningen.

Since I was a child I already had a deep interest in Art and specifically drawing.

This is what made me choose these studies, I wanted to develop my creativity and my skills.

My work mainly revolves around birds, their personalities, their characteristics and their flight.

They are in my regard one of the greatest carrier of elegance, poise and proportions.

And in that they are nature's expression of those three qualities and how this expression can vary is what I attempt to mimic with a brush stroke.

there are currently 10,500 species and approximately 21,000 subspecies of birds in the world. And even within these species birds vary greatly in appearance.

As such, the possibilities and ways of expressing birds are endless, giving great freedom to my work.

Besides the exploration in the possibilities of traditional media it is the assigning of human like traits to an animal that manifests itself in my work.

Every bird is a world to discover. I mostly invent them because they inspire my creativity.

Currently I'm making studies of boars, foxes and other forest animals that I've met in daily life.

It is a challenge to go from the finesse of feathers to the thick hairs of a boar and the softness of a fox's fur.

My main way of expressing these animals is in Chinese ink on paper but I also like to use gold and other colours as a contrasting player to the Ink's deep black.

Next to that I am preparing a series of sculptures of birds made out of brass since the plasticity of sculpture adds a new dimension to my work.

These sculptures are made of brass and brass wire as an extension of "drawing" in 3D. When I work with Brass I create lines as a drawing would be,

Having imagination remove the limits between drawing and sculpture, and let sculpture be a drawing, and the drawing a sculpture.

For 3 years I've lived in Spain and this time has given me the opportunity to organize several solo expositions.

These expositions have been well received by viewers and clients.

The impact of this experience has made me grow both as a person and as an artist.
